Our Topic in Spring Term is North America. We are going to be starting off by looking at the countries that make up North America, using our map skills. Over the term, each week we will learn about a different country. Things we will cover will include: food, currency, famous people, languages, famous landmarks etc.

In English we are reading a book called Holes by Louis Sachar. It is set in Texas, North America and is about a boy called Stanley Yelnats.

What are Stanley's family like?

What do lizards have to do with Stanley's story?

What is the warden like?

Who is your favourite character?

Why are the boys at Camp Green Lake?

Our Topic in Autumn term is 'Anglo Saxons'. We have been learning about Anglo Saxon weapons especially shields. We found out from reliable sources, including quotes from our class text Beowulf, that they would have been made from wood and be decorated with dark coloured designs. We designed and made our own shields and used them to decorate our book corner!

We have also been learning about Anglo Saxon villages. Houses were made from natural resources such as wood, manure and straw. There was only 1 room inside with a fire pit at the centre. We have designed and created our own buildings and mini villages ourselves.
