After last year’s monsoon when Sports Day had to be cancelled, we were hoping the weather would be better this year and it definitely was! The temperatures were very high on Monday and, as a precaution, sun-shelter canopies were set up all round the track area at Hampstead Heath so that children could shelter from the heat in between their events. Large amounts of water and sun cream supplies were also brought over to ensure no child or adult became dehydrated and had sun protection. The children were reminded to wear their sun hats and apply sun cream as often as necessary and we were able to go ahead with these additional measures in place.
Reception to Year 6 classes took part in a variety of track and field events, the children had a great time and had a go at everything. It was lovely to see them encouraging and congratulating each other at the different activities and the team spirit shown. PE is a very important part of the curriculum and we hope it encourages children to enjoy being active and celebrate their achievements in this area of life.
Thank you children for making this such an enjoyable day for everyone who attended and for representing our school so well. Thank you also to parents or family members who were able to join us and support the children. Staff involved in the organisation of Sports Day worked very hard to make it such a success for the children and I would like to thank them. A special thanks must be given to
Miss Knight, the PE Leader, for organising the venue, the activities and the many other jobs needed for Sports Day to take place successfully. She had an amazing team of helpers, children and staff, who worked with classes at each activity, kept scores and so on. Thank you to this team, you were like our own Olympic Ambassadors!
