We celebrated ‘Book Week’ in school towards the end of November and this was a great success in promoting reading for enjoyment and encouraging the children to try a range of different fiction and non-fiction reading materials.
‘World Book Day’ took place last Thursday and this was another opportunity to have a whole-school focus on reading. The children were invited to create costumes and dress as a favourite book character and took part in reading themed activities during the day. Each child received a £1 voucher which they can spend to help buy a book in any book shop. There is usually a special book of short stories sold to celebrate World Book Day which costs £1 and the voucher can be used just for this.
Thank you for your support with costumes and also for contributing to the ‘Coin trail’ in each class as all money received will be used to buy extra books for the class libraries. Thanks also to our Literacy Leader, Miss O’Toole for her work organising events to celebrate ‘World Book Day’ and we hope this will encourage to children to keep reading!
