Peter Bakare, a volleyball player who competed in the Olympics, visited our school today! He taught us some volleyball drills and we had a great time!
Peter Bakare plays basketball and volleyball and is able to jump very high. He told us that if we want to learn to jump high like him we need to practice a lot so we decided to create our own jump station outdoors!
Learning About Other Faiths
This week we enjoyed learning about Ramadan and Eid. Remina came to visit our class to talk about her beliefs as a Muslim. She told us all about Ramadan, showed us her prayer mat and explained how to use it.
Remina explained how Muslims eat something sweet before their meal when they break their fast. Most people eat a sweet date with some water. Remina left us some dates to try.
Today we celebrated the upcoming Royal Wedding. We came to school dressed in fancy clothes and learned some ballroom dancing moves.
Learning the Fox Trot
This week we have been learning about doubling in maths. The children heard a story about naughty tigers called "Double Trouble" and practised doubling with tigers, numicon and their fingers. Yellow group wrote number sentences about their doubling. What amazing problem solving skills!
Some children made "doubles ladybirds" from play-dough and raisins.
"It's a double, the same raisins on both sides."
"Five and five make ten!"
"It's three here and three here....that's six!"
It's six and six....twelve.

Today we went to Pizza Express to learn how to make pizzas. We learned about the ingredients found in pizza dough, hygiene and safety during cooking and how to make the perfect Marguerita pizza. We all brought home a pizza to share with our families. We hope you enjoyed tasting them!
Congratulation to Zoey, Anthony, Frankie J, Ronnie, Raphael and Aydin who received certificates in our last two assemblies!
To start off our topic "Animals", we took a trip to Camley Street Natural Park. We enjoyed being "woodland investigators" and "pond explorers" and learning about the animals that live in these habitats.
Internet Safety Day
For internet safety day we listened to the story "Three Little Monsters" and talked about the monsters felt when others made mean comments about their schoolwork online. We discussed who we could ask for help when someone makes up feel sad or upset.
Furthermore many children in St-Joseph's class this week tried to avoid iPads, computers and television before bedtime. The children described their favourite bedtime stories and how these stories helped them have a good night sleep.
We learned lots of interesting facts about plants and animals on our visit to Kentish Town City farm today.
We learned that "all female birds lay eggs" and we found out that baby pigeons are called "squabs." We observed a pigeon egg, a one day old squab and and six day old squab.
Congratulations to Yara, Theo and Abbie for receiving certificates in assembly last week. Yara is a resilient learner, Theo always tries his best to be a "bucket filler" and Abbie wrote a sentence all by herself.
Steven received at "Learning Values" certificate in assembly for being resilient in all areas of his learning.

Last week's focus was "Be Confident." All these children were confident as they worked and learned new skills both at school and at home.
Finley explained how he was confident when learning to ride his bike: "I was riding a bike and I fell and hit my head but I got back on and done it... I said 'I can do it!'"
Naod explained how he was confident when making a paper airplane: I made it and it didn't work but then I did it and I was showing everyone how to make an airplane.
St-Joseph class is looking forward to a busy and exciting Spring Term. We have been talking about the "7 Learning Values" and how they can help us to be our best at school.
Today we had our second "Stay and Play" session with a focus on maths. Thanks to all the parents and carers who participated!
As part of Book Week, the author Faustin Charles came visit us. He read us his book "The Selfish Crocodile" and taught us some fun games.
It's book week! On Monday we came to school dressed up as book characters and some of us brought in our favourite books to share. Look at our fabulous costumes!
This week we went on an Autumn walk to Hampstead Heath. We saw (and heard) lots of birds and picked up many different leaves, branches and mini-beasts. Thanks to all the parents who joined us!
We have been learning all about Diwali this week. We made Rangoli patterns from different materials and we read and wrote about "Sita and Rama. " We also learned about India and used our senses to explore different spices from this country.
Frankie M made a Rangoli pattern and explained: "I made a Rangoli pattern. They put them by the house to welcome guests. I used beans to make a pattern."

We have been learning about God's World in religion. We planted flowers in our outdoor playground to make God's world even more beautiful!
Thank you to all the parents who attended our "Crescent Literacy Workshop." It was lovely to see parents and children working together on a range of activities relating to the book "The Train Ride!"
Last week Raphael, Amaury and Bert were resilient learners. They were challenged to make tricky peg patterns and remained resilient even when they made mistakes. They didn't give up, tried different ways of approaching the task and made some fabulous repeating patterns!
Congratulations to Emily for being an Ambitious learner this week. She wrote birthday cards for her parents and decided to wrap them up beautifully. Abigail was a Focussed learner. She worked hard in the outdoor area covering an entire board with numicon. Abigail stayed focussed and persisted even when she found it difficult!
This week we focused on the "Be Confident" learning value. Congratulations to Lillie, Raphael, Maja, Bobby and Patrick for being confident learners this week.

Look at our Learning Values display! The 7 learning values are displayed on each petal and every child in St-Joseph's class now has their face on a bee. This week we have been focussing on the learning value "Be Focussed" and the children who have demonstrated this learning value have placed their bee on the "Be Focussed" petal of our flower. We are busy bees in St-Joseph's class!
On Monday 10th October, the whole school celebrated our 7 new Learning Values by all dressing as bees! As a school, we are encouraging the children to "Bee their Best" by demonstrating each of our 7 key learning values. We will be exploring each value weekly and children who show one or more of the values will be celebrated each week. Please look out for a picture of our "Bee Your Best" flower display coming up soon!
On Friday 10th June we celebrated Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth's 90th Birthday. We dressed up as Kings and Queens, Princes and Princesses for the day and had a great time! We did fun activities such as making crowns and bunting. We also had a crown competition and we were able to show everyone in assembly.
This was followed by a special picnic lunch outside in the playground. Decorations like bunting were made and put up outside which made it feel like a street party! We had cupcakes which were decorated with an iced '90' which tasted really good!
St-Joseph class has been learning about how vegetables grow. We have been cooking with lots of healthy vegetables and made delicious vegetable pizzas.
We also participated in a "Peter Pan" drama workshop. We went on many adventures and had a fantastic time!
This term we had pet caterpillars. We experienced the magic of metamorphosis as they turned into beautiful butterflies!
