HAPPY NEW YEAR! Hope you all had a lovely Christmas break and enjoyed the time off with your friends and family.
It is the start of the second week back in St Catherine and our learning is already well under way. We have started our new topics already! In Topic we are learning all about the continent of North America - the geography, history and vital information about this amazing continent. In RE we are studying Inspirational People. We will be mainly learning about Jesus and his disciples and how he inspired so many people. In Science our new topic is Changing Materials where we will be learning about how materials change through reversible and irreversible reactions, states of matter and the water cycle.
This half term in English we are reading the book 'Holes' as it links to our North America topic. It is about a boy from USA who gets sent to a Texan camp as a punishment for stealing a pair of sneakers. He claims he is innocent. We will have to wait to find out if he is telling the truth. The children will be using this book as a basis for their writing.
It is an extremely important term for the Year Sixes in the class as it will be their final full term before their SATs in May. It is therefore vital that children come to school everyday to ensure that they don't miss out on crucial learning. They also need to make sure they are doing at least 20 minutes of reading each day at home and completing any homework given to them by their teacher.
Recently, we had an assembly about our new school values which are: bee ambitious, bee brave, bee focused, bee confident, bee resilient, bee creative, and bee flexible. Next Wednesday, our class are performing an assembly about being resilient. One of our wonderful teachers Miss Guppy has made a beautiful flower display with our class members on it, we each have our own bee that will be moved to the value we have showed that week.
Next week, is parents evening where each child's parents will be able to speak to their child's teachers to find out about their child's learning and progress.
This half term, we will be visiting CLC to learn new computing skills and also the Horniman Museum to learn some more about Variation and Evolution which is our topic in Science.
