World Book Day

Today we celebrated World Book day by coming to school dressed as our favourite book characters. Everyone had a wonderful day and enjoyed lots of reading themed activities including visiting the library, illustrating our favourite book cover and joining in with a World Book Day quiz. The theme of World Book Day this year is ‘You are a Reader’. In our World Book Day assemblies we talked about how we are readers, our favourite authors and why reading is so important. We also showcased our impressive costumes and discussed the characters we were dressed as. Our winners Alyssa and Noel who were dressed as The Cat in the Hat and an alien from 'Alien's Love Underpants' both received a Golden Ticket to redeem against a book of their choice. After our celebration assembly, we were so excited to welcome our secret teacher, Miss Hallmark from Year 5, into our classroom to share a story with us. Finally, we had the chance to join with Year 4 and paired up to enjoy books together.

Thank you to all parents and carers for your support and effort with the fantastic costumes that were on display today. We are so glad that everyone had such a great day and keep reading!

Moving Classroom

As you are aware, this year, to support your child’s transition into Year 1 following the disruption caused by the COVID pandemic, the class has been using the classroom on the ground floor of the school building. The aim of this was to ensure that Year 1 pupils had access to a more play-based learning environment that met their developmental needs.

As the children in Year 1 have grown in confidence and independence over the year, they are now ready to begin accessing a more formal curriculum and will be moving into the Year 1 classroom on the first floor. Over this week, the children have had opportunities to visit their new classroom and familiarise themselves with their new environment. They have also had a chance to use the Key Stage One playground and are very excited to join their Year 2 friends for playtime and lunchtime.

From Monday 10th January, Year 1 will enter school via the main gates using the church end staircase to access their classroom. Miss McKay and Mrs Dawson will be on hand to help your child as they become more familiar with this change in routine. Year 1 will be dismissed from the main playground at the end of the school day.

We are looking forward to sharing the wonderful learning experiences that take place in Year 1’s new classroom with you over the term.

Nativity

Well done to Year 1 on their fantastic Nativity. You all worked so hard to learn your actions and songs to tell us the special story of Jesus' birth. You are amazing! You can watch the Key Stage 1 Nativity on your child's Google Classroom Page.

Christmas Dinner

Year 1 children really enjoyed their school Christmas Lunch this week. They pulled crackers, shared jokes and listened to lots of festive music. It was so lovely to see such big smiles on everyone's faces. Thank you very much to Dan and Maria for cooking such a delicious meal.

A Visit From Santa

Year 1 were so excited to see Santa this week. He even gave us an early Christmas present. Thank you Father Christmas.
