'Healthy Schools Award' Success!

We are very pleased and proud to let you know that the school has recently been successful in achieving the  ‘Healthy Schools Award’. This is due to the work of all the children and staff involved and a very big well done and congratulations to everyone for working so hard to achieve this. A very special thank you must be given to Miss Knight, our PSHE Leader, who led this work over the last two years and successfully introduced new initiatives, organised events and gathered the evidence to support the successful application for the award.  Thank you from our whole school community Miss Knight for your fantastic work to encourage us all to be part of a healthy school.

Miss Knight has added some more information about the award below.

“Over the last two years, the children of St Dominic's school have been working hard to achieve the Healthy School Award. This award is unique to schools in London and it's really difficult to achieve. To achieve our award we have made lots of changes. For example, we have:

- Improved our P.E. lessons, making sure that all of the children are active for as long as possible

- Starting teaching cooking sessions each term

- Spent lots of time teaching the children about the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle

- Given our children opportunities to meet and work with incredible athletes to help inspire them within sport

These changes have made our children build a passion for fitness and become a lot more confident at making healthy choices. This year, we will continue with our good work but we are all really proud of our new award and will certainly display it in our Reception area.

If you would like to know any more about our award or see some of the excellent work the children have completed, check out our class pages and the ‘Our Healthy School’ area on the website.”
