School Closure

Dear Parents/Carers,

Re: Coronavirus update – school closure to most pupils after Friday 20th March 2020

Following on from the Government announcement yesterday evening, I’m now writing to let you know thatwe have now been instructed to close the school to almost all children after this Friday 20th March until further notice.

As advised by the government, we will do all we can to stay open to provide care for the children of key workers (e.g. NHS staff, police, others in frontline services) and children with Education Health Care Plans. However, this will be dependent on whether there are enough non-isolating staff available to safely open the school. We will inform identified parents on a daily basis about whether or not the school is able to safely open the following day.

We are waiting for the government to publish more information today about occupations which fall into key worker roles. We will then be able to find out how many of our children fall into these groups. Once we have identified these children we will be in contact with their parents.

We are also waiting for guidance about what key worker parents would need to do if their school was unable to open and will forward this on as soon as it becomes available.

All other children whose parents have not been contacted by 4.00pm on Friday will not be admitted into school from Monday 23rd March onwards.

Please note that this is a national closure – as you may have heard in the news – so while it is a challenging situation, we are not alone. Schools also do not have any more information about the length of this closure and will let you know when this is by text and on the website when we have more information.

What we’ll continue doing while your child is at home

Your child’s learning is of course important to us, so we’ll continue to help your child to learn. There are activities and remote learning resources being added to the school website tomorrow and more information will be given on this.

Unfortunately we won’t be able to go ahead with any of the planned Lent and Easter events but we will let you know about planned events for the summer when we are able to reopen.

Y6 SATS have been cancelled by the government and so children will not be taking part in these assessments.

This is as much as we know right now and we appreciate your continued patience with as we deal with this ever-changing situation. We understand that this latest news will have an impact on you and your family and it’s far from ideal, but we’ll continue to keep in touch with any updates as the situation develops. Also, if you or your child displays any symptoms of coronavirus, please use NHS 111 online.

Thank you again for your continued support, and we will be in touch with more information when we can.

With best wishes to you all,

Miss O’Prey
