Parish

St Dominic’s Catholic Primary school is closely linked to the community of Dominican Friars who founded it and the Parish community of St Dominic’s. The school is very fortunate as we have our own Chaplain, Fr. Joseph Bailham, who was appointed by the Prior and Parish Priest, Fr. Lawrence Lew. Both Fr. Joseph and Fr. Lawrence work closely with the whole school community to provide support for the Catholic life of the school and formation of teachers. Fr. Joseph regularly visits the school to meet with the children and support religious education teaching and the prayer life of the school. He has organised crowd-funding events to ensure every child in the school has their own personal religious resources to have a prayer space at home and welcomes the children to the Church each Friday lunchtime for personal prayer.

Fr. Joseph is regularly joined by Fr. Lawrence or other members of the Dominican community to support particular events such as whole-school assemblies or blessings of classrooms at the beginning of the academic year. In addition, the children are invited to visit the Church at regular times throughout the liturgical year for planned events and prayer services, for example to learn more about their Class Saint or the Stations of the Cross, or to attend Confession. At appropriate times in the school year, the children lead the ten o’clock parish weekday Mass or other Prayer Services and religious events in the Church.
