Year 4 School Trip to the CLC
On Friday 5th July, Year 4 went to the CLC. We learnt how to use software called, '2 Create a Super Story' which involved animation and writing. We told the story of the 'Wonder Women' we had been researching in our topic lessons.
Last week, we learned about climate change. We conducted an experiment that highlights what the greenhouse effect is. We set up an experiment which involved predicting, observing, taking accurate measurements, recording our findings and presenting the results in a line graph. Then we concluded the experiment.
In Topic, we have been learning about Wonder Women. Over the last few weeks, we have been researching famous women from the past and discussing the impact of their achievements on modern day life. We presented our research to the rest of the class and talked about the importance of their actions.
The Dogs Trust
On Thursday 13th June, we had a special visit from 'The Dogs Trust.' We welcomed Kelly Craig from the charity which protects all dogs from any maltreatment. In assembly, Kelly spoke about how to 'Be Dog Smart.' She also worked with the classes and delivered workshops on how to be safe around dogs and the commitment involved in owning a dog. We took part in drama, discussions, games and group work, which supported our ongoing work for PSHE.
Our new topic is called 'Living Things and their Habitats.' We took part in a class debate. We discussed the positives and negatives of a proposed change to an area in the school environment.
In Topic, we have been learning about The Stone Age. We discussed how we could know about things that happened thousands of years ago by looking at the evidence left. Then we learned about primary sources. An example of a primary source is cave paintings. They often depicted hunting and what cavemen hunted. We created representations of the past by using chalks and charcoal. We used line, tone, shape and rubbing to blend colours.
This week, we listened the story when the disciples were visited by the Holy Spirit. We acted out the coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. We worked in groups and each group acted out a different scene.
Our new topic is called, 'Mission of the Church.' First we watched a video to see how the disciples were visited by the Holy Spirit. Then we produced a piece of artwork using watercolour paints or pastels showing the story.
