Teacher Letters

Monday 13th July

Hello Year 5!

I hope you and your families are well and safe.

We have come to the end of the year! Can you believe it!? This certainly is not the end of term that I had envisaged… I feel sad that we are not able to celebrate together, however, we can look back fondly on the memories we made earlier in the year, and look forward to the new memories we can make with our friends and new teachers in September.

I thought you would all like to see our first ever class photo together from last September!

Have a think about some of the memories, experiences and things you enjoyed this year. Complete this activity below! I would absolutely LOVE to see some of your completed activities when you have finished!

I have absolutely loved teaching every one of you, Year 5. I hope you all have a lovely summer, and look forward to seeing you in Year 6!

Best wishes to you and your families,

Miss Hoare

Monday 6th July

Hello Year 5!

I hope you and your families are well and safe.

As I mentioned in my last catch up, from 4th July, lots more shops, restaurants and cafes have been open, as well as hairdressers and barbers! Have any of you done anything different this weekend?

I went out for dinner this Saturday for the first time in months! I had a juicy burger and chips!!! It was delicious! What is your favourite meal? Also, I am very excited because I am going to the hairdressers on Thursday! My hair has grown so much, I can nearly sit on it..! I wonder if any of you look different from when we last saw each other!

Amazingly, this year has absolutely whizzed past, and we only have two weeks left of year 5 together! Can you believe it?! I am so proud of you all, and I can’t wait until September, when I can see you all as grown up Year 6s!

As always, I would love to hear about what you have been doing over the last few weeks and months.

Don’t forget, you can write to me at admin@stdominics.camden.sch.uk or write a letter to the school!

I look forward to hearing from you!

Best wishes to you and your families,

Miss Hoare

Monday 29th June

Hello Year 5!

I hope you and your families are well and safe.

I am still missing all of you very much. Some of you have sent me photos and emails and I have absolutely loved hearing from you and seeing what you have been up to!

We have had some big news from the Government! From 4th July, cafes, restaurants, adventure parks, aquariums, zoos and theme parks will be allowed to open, provided they are doing so safely. Won’t that be amazing!? I am sure you are looking forward to being able to do a few more things with your family.

Outdoor play areas in parks will also be open, as well as hairdressers and barbers! I’m sure there will be people in your family who are delighted at this news! Has anyone in your family had to grow their hair very long?!

Although it can seem worrying that we are allowed to do things that weren’t safe before, it is important to remember that by staying indoors and keeping safe for a long time, we have made this possible by keeping the virus under control. Of course, it is still very important to follow the rules and wash our hands regularly.

If you feel very worried or anxious about what is happening, remember to share your thoughts and feelings with a trusted adult. This will not last forever. Things will get back to normal.

Don’t forget, you can write to me at admin@stdominics.camden.sch.uk or write a letter to the school!

I look forward to hearing from you!

Best wishes to you and your families,

Miss Hoare

Monday 22nd June

Hello Year 5!

I hope you and your families are well and safe.

On Sunday, 21st June it was Father’s Day, a day to celebrate all of the men in our lives who look after us. What did you do to celebrate Father’s Day? Did you know, countries all around the world celebrate Father’s day in different ways! You can read about it, and the history of Father’s day here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/48530462

I am staying busy by reading lots of new books. My favourite book I have read recently is ‘The Boy at the Back of the Class’ by Onjali Rauf. It is a fantastic book about friendship, that centers around a young refugee boy in London. I would highly recommend it! What books have you been reading during lockdown?

Don’t forget, you can write to me at admin@stdominics.camden.sch.uk or write a letter to the school!

I look forward to hearing from you!

Best wishes to you and your families,

Miss Hoare

Monday 15th June

Hello Year 5!

I hope you and your families are well and safe.

I am missing you all very much and I can’t wait until we can all see each other again.

Isn’t it great that things are slowly starting to go back to a new normal? Now we can see more of our families and even give some of them hugs!

I have been to see some of my family members in their gardens and have been experimenting in the kitchen, making some goodies to bring to them. I thought I’d show you my latest achievement – baklava! Baklava is a delicious sweet treat made from lots of layers of thin pastry, honey and nuts!

I would love to see some of the things you have been doing, whether it’s in the kitchen or arts and craft projects.

Don’t forget, you can write to me at admin@stdominics.camden.sch.uk or write a letter to the school!

I look forward to hearing from you!

Best wishes to you and your families,

Monday 8th June

Hello Year 5!

I hope you and your families are well and safe.

I’m sure some of you are very excited about what will be happening on 17th June… Football is returning to our televisions!! The Premier League will restart, and matches held with no fans in the stadiums.

The BBC will be broadcasting a few games for free, starting with Bournemouth v Crystal Palace on 20th June, followed by Norwich v Everton on 24 June!

As you know, I support Liverpool and they are only 6 points away from becoming Champions, how exciting is that?! What are your favourite team’s ambitions this season?

Finally, apart from football, what sports are you excited to see come back? What sports have you been doing at home and in the park?

Don’t forget, you can write to me at admin@stdominics.camden.sch.uk or write a letter to the school!

I look forward to hearing from you!

Best wishes to you and your families,

Miss Hoare

Monday 1st June

Hello Year 5!

I hope you and your families are well and safe.

Haven’t we been lucky with the beautiful weather? The sunshine has been fantastic over the last few weeks. I have loved reading in the sunshine both in the park and on the balcony. What sorts of things have you been doing over half term?

Have any of you been baking any biscuits this week? If so, maybe your biscuits might be worth a lot of money one day….! I came across an article on Newsround that explains how a biscuit sold at an auction in 2011 for £1250! That’s right…. A biscuit! Read the article below to find out why this biscuit was so valuable.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/15127329

In other biscuit news, Newsround are taking votes to see if they can find the most popular biscuit on the planet! I think my favourite has to be chocolate digestives! What are your favourite biscuits? You can take a look and vote for your favourite here.

Don’t forget, you can write to me at admin@stdominics.camden.sch.uk or write a letter to the school!

Monday 18th May

Hello Year 5!

I hope you and your families are well and safe.

We have had some updates from our Prime Minister Boris Johnson this week which have meant that we can do a few more things such as meet somebody in the park or go to some more shops. Have you done anything new or different this week?

This week I went to B&Q, keeping a safe distance at all times, and bought a new pot for my plant - a Fiddle-Leaf Fig. This type of plant is considered divine in China! The bigger the pot, the bigger the plant grows, so I can’t wait to see how tall it grows now it is in its big new pot! How tall do you think it will grow?

Don’t forget, you can write to me at admin@stdominics.camden.sch.uk or write a letter to the school!

I look forward to hearing from you!

Best wishes to you and your families,

Hello Year 5!

I hope you are all well and safe.

What a long time it has been in lockdown so far! You have all done amazingly well to stay home, keep safe and save lives.

This week I have made a Miss Hoare’s Bingo for you! Tick off how many things you have done in one week! Can you challenge yourself to do them all?

Don’t forget, you can write to me at admin@stdominics.camden.sch.uk or write a letter to the school!

I look forward to hearing from you!

Best wishes to you and your families,

Monday 4th May

Hello Year 5!

I hope you are all well and keeping safe. Since last week I have read 1 new book and tried 3 new recipes. I have also tried to do Joe Wicks’ workout as often as I can! Have any of you tried his YouTube workouts at 9am every week day?

Each Thursday I look forward to the Clap for our Carers on Thursday’s at 8pm. I think it’s wonderful that so many people are showing appreciation for the hard work from the NHS staff and all of the carers keeping us safe. Some people are clapping, others are waving banners and showing off rainbows, and some are even playing instruments! How are you and your family showing appreciation for our carers?

Did you see that it was the amazing Captain Tom Moore’s 100th birthday last week? He has raised a huge amount of money for the NHS, and received thousands of birthday cards! You can take this Newsround quiz all about Tom Moore here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/52471924

Don’t forget, you can write to me at admin@stdominics.camden.sch.uk or write a letter to the school!

I look forward to hearing from you!

Best wishes to you and your families,

Miss Hoare

Monday 27th April

Hello Year 5!

How are you all? I am missing teaching you all very much. This is a very strange time that we are experiencing at the moment. I know it might feel unsettling. It is important to remember that the world has not experienced anything like this for a long time, so we are all changing our behaviour and adjusting to this new situation to keep everybody as safe as possible. It is important to listen to the advice of the scientists and stay home, keep safe and save lives.

What sorts of things are you doing to fill your time indoors? I have tried to learn to knit but I must admit it is very, very difficult! My aim is to knit a blanket by the end of lockdown… Do you think I will be able to do it?!  I am reading lots of books and trying some new recipes. My favourite thing to cook has been Irish soda bread. I have also been talking to family and friends using Facetime and Zoom!

I would love to hear about some of the things you are doing at home. You can write to me at admin@stdominics.camden.sch.uk or write a letter to the school! I look forward to hearing from you!

Best wishes to you and your families,

Miss Hoare
